House Group Profiles

Winsham House Group

As the name would suggest they usually meet in Winsham.

They meet Wednesday evenings at 8pm.

Averages 6 people per week.

Very open to new members and lifts can be arranged.

No Leader as such, they all have an equal voice.

Their focus is getting together with like minded people to learn more about God.

They choose topics themselves for bible based study.

However what is key to them is fellowship, sharing joy, struggles and prayers.

Nomads House Group

They are called the Nomads as the group moves round the members of this group, to share the hosting burden. Mainly around the Chard area.

They meet Thursday evenings at 7pm (7 for tea and chat, 7.30pm they start study). Try to finish by 8.30pm.

At the start of each term they plan a schedule of what they are going to do each week.

Anyone who wants to can lead the group and leadership rotates.

Requested prayer items are e mailed around everyone.

The study topics are whatever God brings to them at the time of planning.

The Attic Crew House Group

This group decided on its name as it usually meets in the Attic room of a house in Purtington.

They meet on a Tuesday evening at 8pm, and try to start by 8.30pm. Finishing by 10pm.

There are 11 in the group.

The group is usually led by Colin Shearer, however everyone is very welcome to step forward and request to lead anytime they feel like it. As house group leader Colin is very keen to see future new house group leaders emerging.

The group decides on topics to study by meeting up as we get close to finishing a topic and discussing it around a social evening.

The Diner’s Club House Group

This name derives from the fact that they decided early on to eat together each week before studying.

They meet in Broadway, outside Chard.

They meet Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm and end by 9.30pm.

There are 6 in the group.

The dynamic of the group has now changed in such a way that the food element of the group has been abandoned.

There is no leader. They all have a say.

They have followed many different house group formats over the years always trying to keep it fresh with new ways to learn.

However the chief aim for them seems to be using themes or text to springboard discussion about spiritual and practical aspects of Christianity.

They are a newish group with a wide variety of theological views, which they enjoy respectfully challenging each other on. However they all agree on the central theme of the resurrection.

Take Three House Group

This group having been through an Alpha course and discipleship course together, and then wanted to continue together into a house group. Hence the name.

They meet in Bews Lane Chard.

They meet Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm

There are 8 in the group

The group dips into many aspects of small group format, bible study, discussion, looking at what was preached on the previous Sunday, as well as social gatherings.

The key to this group seems to be the support, guidance and prayer they extend one to another.

Daytime House Group

This large group meet because together because they enjoy the fellowship, support, prayer and study that they share in, helping them all grow in faith.

They meet at 1 Elizabeth Way, Chard.

They meet Tuesday mornings, 10 – 11.30 ish.

There are 15 in the group.

This group meets up for tea and coffee and fellowship. Then shares prayer needs. Then they move on to a bible study and discussion, lead by Mike Hornsby.

They have also been known to have a variety for other kinds of meetings from social gatherings with lunch and a speaker to Communion.

Ashgrove House Group

This is our newly formed group. Formally Daytime too group.

This fledgling group is already finding its feet very well and has a real open comfortable atmosphere with both CBC and non CBC members. It is led with great experience in small groups from CBC and previous churches.

Springmead House Group

They meet to have a time of prayer and fellowship over coffee followed by Bible study. Over the past few years they have looked at “Characters of the Bible.

Prayer, Support, and Encouragement are big parts of this group core. Supporting and praying for one another even on a very personal level. They also get involved with real issues of the world and actively support a child in Vietnam. They also mix it up a bit with social events and meals together.
